First Time Using M365 Standard if you Already Have Another Version of Office Installed

If you have Office 2019/2021 Already Installed

  • If the customer already has Office 2019 or 2021, they can change the license by going to File > Account in Word or any Office app.  (Account is at the bottom left).
  • Then clicking "Switch Account".  You can also opt to sign out and then sign in.
  • Sign in with their Microsoft 365 account email address and password, and Office should activate under the new subscription without needing a full reinstall.

  • If you have an older version of MS Office installed on your computer

    1. Uninstall the Old Version:
      1. It's generally recommended to uninstall older versions of Microsoft Office to prevent conflicts, although some users can run both versions side by side.
      2. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program, select the old Office version, and uninstall it.
      3. This will not affect documents you have saved.
    2. Sign In to Microsoft 365 Account:
      1. Open a browser and go to www.office.com.
      2. Sign in with your Email address and password..
    3. Install Microsoft 365 Apps:
      1. Once signed in, click "Install Office" to download the installer for Microsoft 365 apps.
    4. Activate Office:
      1. After installation, open Word (or any Office app), and it will prompt for sign-in. Enter your email address and password to activate the license.
Now when you go to File and Account, you should see the Microsoft license on the right with your email address showing where the blurred email appears below.
